Why should you add Argan Oil to your skincare routine?

  • Deep Moisturization: Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, Argan Oil deeply hydrates the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and supple.
  • Anti-Aging Properties: Antioxidants like vitamin E and polyphenols help combat free radical damage, reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.
  • Skin Nourishment: Packed with essential nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin E, and omega fatty acids, Argan Oil nourishes the skin and promotes a healthy complexion.
  • Skin Repair: Its healing properties repair the skin barrier, soothe irritation, and reduce redness, benefiting conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
  • Non-Comedogenic: Argan Oil won’t clog pores, making it suitable for all skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin.
  • UV Protection: While not a sunscreen replacement, Argan Oil offers natural sun-protective properties to shield the skin from UV damage.
  • Gentle and Versatile: Suitable for sensitive skin, Argan Oil can be used as a facial moisturizer, body oil, hair treatment, or nail conditioner.
  • Promotes Radiant Skin: Regular use improves skin elasticity, promotes a radiant complexion, and enhances overall skin health.

anatomy of the Argan fruit:

  1. Outer Skin (Exocarp): Smooth and thick, turns from green to yellow-brown when ripe.
  2. Pulp (Mesocarp): Fleshy and fibrous layer beneath the skin, not typically consumed by humans.
  3. Hard Shell (Endocarp): Extremely hard, woody shell protecting the seeds.
  4. Kernels (Nuts): One to three small, oil-rich seeds inside the shell, source of Argan Oil.

Where does Argan tree grow?

  1. The Argan tree (Argania spinosa) is a unique and ancient tree indigenous to the semi-desert regions of Morocco. It is highly valued for its fruits, which are the source of the renowned Argan Oil.
  2. The Argan tree is predominantly found in the Sous Valley, located between the cities of Essaouira and Agadir.
  3. While the Argan tree is indigenous to Morocco, there have been efforts to cultivate it in other arid regions with similar climates, such as parts of Algeria and Israel. However, these efforts have not been as successful as the native growth in Morocco.

What is the Difference Between Cosmetic Argan Oil and Cooking Argan Oil?

The primary difference between cosmetic and culinary Argan oil lies in the processing of the seeds. For cooking Argan oil, the seeds are roasted before oil extraction, whereas for cosmetic Argan oil, the seeds are pressed without roasting.

This roasting process results in notable differences between the two types of oil:

  • Color: Cooking Argan oil has a darker color, ranging from red to brown, depending on the roasting intensity. In contrast, cosmetic Argan oil is clear and golden.
  • Smell: Cooking Argan oil has a strong, nutty aroma due to the roasting. Cosmetic Argan oil has little to no scent, with only a faint hint of Argan seeds.

Historical Context

Before Europeans discovered the benefits of Moroccan Argan oil about 30 years ago, there was no distinct category for cosmetic Argan oil. Moroccan women traditionally produced only cooking Argan oil, which they used not only in their diet but also for skincare and hair care. This multi-purpose oil was a remedy for various skin disorders and was also used on children to treat rashes and skin irritations.
